St. Patrick's Day Drink Recipes

Drinks for the Irish Holiday

Beer seems to be the typical drink of choice on St. Patrick's Day. Those who want something a little more exciting, and intoxicating, will want to try these drinks.

Anyone can go to a bar on St. Patrick’s Day and order their favorite beer with a few drops of green food coloring added. For those that prefer to stay at home, not fight the crowds, and be with friends and family to celebrate the Irish holiday, it is possible to have more than just a beer.

Here are just a few recipes for non-beer recipes for drinks for people to enjoy on St. Patrick’s Day. Add a little more fun to drinks by creating ice cubes with green food coloring. Simply add water and green food coloring to ice cube tray and freeze. Once fully frozen, add to drinks.

Irish Eyes

Serves 1

  • 4-6 ice cubes, cracked
  • 2 measures Irish whiskey
  • 1/2 measure green Chartreuse

Put the cracked ice into a mixing glass. Pour the Irish whiskey and green Chartreuse over the ice. Stir well and strain into a chilled cocktail or lowball glass.

Shillelagh

  • 1 teaspoon golden rum
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Irish Cow

Serves 1

  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 measures Irish whiskey
  • 1 teaspoon superfine sugar

Heat the milk in a small saucepan to just below boiling point. Remove from the heat and pour into a warmed heatproof glass or mug. Add the Irish whiskey and superfine sugar, and stir until the sugar has dissolved.

The Dancing Leprechaun

Serves 1

  • 1 measure Irish whiskey
  • 1/2 measure Drambuie
  • 1/2 measure lemon juice
  • Ginger ale
  • Twist of Lemon peel

Shake the Irish whiskey, Drambuie, lemon juice and ginger ale vigorously over ice cubes until frosted and strain into a highball glass with ice cubes. Garnish with a twist of lemon.

Irish Flag

Serves 1

  • 1 measure Bailey’s Irish Cream
  • 1 measure green crème de menthe
  • 1 measure Grand Marnier orange liqueur

Pour the crème de menthe into a pousse-café glass. Slowly pour the Bailey’s Irish cream over the back of a spoon so that it floats on top of the crème de menthe. Finally, slowly pour the Grand Marnier over the back of the spoon so that it floats on top of the Bailey’s Irish crème.

With these additions to the typical green beer, anyone (over the legal drinking age) is able to enjoy a drink on St. Patrick’s Day that isn’t necessarily beer.
